Laura Glassburn, 15, of St. Albans died after the Honda
Civic driven by her older sister, Sharon, 19, was hit by
an SUV, said Lt. Sean Crosier with the Kanawha County
Sheriff's Department
The accident happened about 7:22 p.m. Thursday at the
intersection of U.S. 60 and Kanawha Terrace near Wendy's,
Crosier said.
A Jeep Cherokee traveling eastbound on U.S. 60 struck the
front passenger's side of the Honda Civic attempting to
turn left onto Kanawha Terrace, Crosier said.
Laura was killed, he said, and Sharon was seriously
injured. Laura was a student at Capital High School.
Luke Russell Mitchell, 24, of St. Albans the driver of the
Jeep also was injured, but police said his injuries were
not considered life threatening.
At least two people were transported to Charleston Area
Medical Center's General Hospital with injuries, sheriff's
department officials said.
No charges have been filed and police have not yet
determined who was at fault, Crosier said.
Metro 911 dispatchers first received calls from the scene
about a three-car accident with heavy damage, but Crosier
confirmed only two vehicles were involved.
Police did not release the names of victims because
families still were being notified, he said. It is not
clear if the 15-year-old passenger died at the scene or at
the hospital, according to Crosier.
Traffic was backed up in the area for about two hours,
police said.
Emergency crews cleared the scene just after 11 p.m.
The sheriff's department is still investigating and is
reconstructing the accident to determine exactly what
happened, Crosier said
