Barlow Drive MVA leaves 1 Dead

A female was killed early today in a car accident on Barlow
Drive and two males apparently injured in the wreck were
seen leaving the scene, police said.
The wreck occurred when the older model car all three were
riding in flipped over on Barlow between Twilight Drive and
Keystone Drive, police said. Police believe the crash
happened about 6:30 a.m. They had not identified any of
those involved. Cpl. Shawn Williams of the
Charleston Police Department said a witness who first came
upon the scene reported seeing two white males who appeared
to be injured walking toward Keystone Drive

away from the vehicle, which was upside down with its top crumpled in the roadway. The witness told police the males returned to the scene and then left again. City police and fire personnel were still working to extract the body from the wreckage at 8 a.m. Williams said they could not yet determine how old the victim was. "Basically, we think she was a passenger, but we're not for certain," he said. Williams said it appeared the driver was speeding along the desolate stretch of Barlow skirting the Elk River. It appeared as if the vehicle entered a ditch and flipped on its top as it traveled north.
Debris lay scattered around the wreckage: a white portable television, window fan, various items of clothing including shoes, food, leaves, dirt and car parts.
Officers with the traffic division blocked the stretch of Barlow between Twilight and Keystone while emergency workers and investigators worked on the scene.
