Jack
T. Vanness Sr., 83, passed away September 24, 2008, in Thomas Memorial
Hospital after a long illness.
He
was born in
Fayette County,
July
27, 1925.
He retired from the Charleston Fire Department after 34 years of
service and was a volunteer fireman for the Loudendale, Davis Creek
and
Malden
fire departments. He was a member of
Big
Bottom Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He
was preceded in death by two infant sons and his parents, Doss and
Bessie Bowles. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen;
sons, Charles T. Vanness and his wife, Jane, of Middleburg, Fla., and
Jack T. Jr. and his wife, Roberta; daughters, Laura Vanness and Norma
Burgess of Nitro and Janet Crone of Hurricane, nine grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren.
