The Rand Volunteer Fire Department received the new truck Last
March. The truck was purchased with a Fire Act Grant totaling
$218,000.00, with the Fire Department providing over $50,000.00 of its
own funds to finish the project. It has taken the fire department almost
a year to equip the truck with all new everything. The truck was
purchased through Findley Fire Equipment with some items unfinished, and
completed after the truck was delivered, and as funds became available.
It is the first non Mack truck purchased since 1993, and the first
factory built new truck since 1973. The Pierce Contender, is a 1250
pumper, and has a 1000 gallon booster tank. The County Commission cost
shared in the purchase of four new air packs, through the public safety
grant committee. The truck was moved into first out position taking the
place of engine 44 a 79 Mack. Special thanks goes to David Nuckles, who
applied for the grant, Jason Owens, and Billy White, for following
through on this project. Also a special thanks to Chief Andre
Higginbotham for helping with writing the grant, and Jodie from Findley
Fire, for helping to finish the truck over the last year. |
